Brendan Ahern

Brendan Ahern is an Operating Partner at Blue Ladder Capital, where he works alongside portfolio company management teams as a functional expert across finance, operations, HR, and legal. He's a CPA by training and a CFO by experience, having helped grow a SaaS company nearly 4x in under two and a half years. He's not a traditional investor; he's an operator who happens to think like one.

Brendan started his career at PwC in Chicago, spending over five years in assurance and progressing from Associate to Manager. He worked with privately held companies ranging from $50M to $3.5B in revenue across manufacturing, consumer products, construction, and life sciences, and was involved in high-stakes transactions including a $750M+ IPO and M&A deals up to $3B. That audit foundation gave him something most finance executives never get: a broad, ground-level view of how businesses across industries actually run before he ever took on an operating role himself.

He moved into operating roles at Titan Cloud Software, a provider of cloud-based IoT and ESG software for fuel and convenience retailers. As Director of Strategic Finance, he was a key member of the deal team on the company’s 2022 recapitalization, which delivered an 8x+ return. He also built the infrastructure behind the company’s best bookings year ever, automating contract execution from five days to five minutes and standardizing the sales cycle through a modularized product taxonomy.

At Engine (formerly Nuqleous), a retail analytics and category management SaaS company, Brendan rose from VP of Finance to CFO and helped grow the business nearly 4x. He led the financial integration of four acquisitions inside a six-month window, each fully integrated within 60 days of close and without adding a single finance hire. He migrated the company’s ERP, drove its first GAAP-compliant audit to completion with no misstatements, secured a debt facility, and built an independent HR function from the ground up. When the company was recapitalized to Rubicon Technology Partners in 2025 in a strong outcome for investors, Brendan was central to the process from CIM through close.

Today, at Blue Ladder Capital, he brings that whole toolkit to the firm’s portfolio, helping management teams professionalize infrastructure and execute on value creation. He is direct, intellectually honest, and process-oriented without being bureaucratic. He values truth, simplicity, and fairness, both in the companies he partners with and in how he works.

Brendan graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Madison with a Master of Accountancy and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. He lives in Kohler, WI.
